Windows Server 2012 R2 features

This version brings many exciting features that greatly enhance the functionality of the operating system. These functionalities will make a positive impact on your day-to-day operations and often have an out-of-the-box functionality. With a Server 2012 license you get access to the following new options:

Work Folders: With Work Folders you take advantage of a fully function, secure file replications service. Work Folders save copies of files on both the server and the client, performing sync operations whenever a connection is established.

Health Report: A useful reporting tool is Health Report that is integrated by default. With this new feature you can customize the system health reports to display items that you prefer to monitor.

Remote Web Access: Remote Web Access received an overhaul. This option is now optimized for touch devices and is enhanced with rich HTML5 support.

Storage Tiering: With Storage Tiering users have the ability to dynamically move bits of data between different classes of storage, such as SSDs and hard disks. This is the first time ever users are able to do it at the operating system level. Server 2012 R2 uses an algorithm to determine which chunks of data are seeing the most activity and automatically moves the most important data to the faster tier.

Write Back Cache: The Write Back Cache option sets aside an amount of physical storage, to use as a write cache to help smooth out the positives and negatives the of I/O during write-intensive operations.

Parallel rebuild: Windows Server 2012 R2 has the functionality to perform a parallel rebuild of a failed Storage Spaces drive. This greatly reduces the time it takes to perform a disk rebuild.

Workplace Join: This feature allows users to register personal devices with Active Directory. You can then gain certification-based authentication and single sign-on to enterprise apps and data.
