AMD is bringing back one of its most popular gaming processors. During Computex 2026, the company officially announced the return of the Ryzen 7 5800X3D as a special 10th Anniversary Edition, celebrating a decade of the AM4 platform. The move comes as many PC gamers continue using older AM4 systems instead of upgrading to newer AM5 hardware and DDR5 memory.
The Ryzen 7 5800X3D originally launched in 2022 and quickly became one of the most respected gaming CPUs on the market thanks to AMD’s 3D V-Cache technology. Even years later, many gamers still consider it one of the best upgrade options for existing AM4 systems.

AMD Is Celebrating 10 Years of AM4
The new Ryzen 7 5800X3D 10th Anniversary Edition is not a next-generation processor. Instead, it is a re-release of the original chip that helped make AMD’s X3D gaming lineup famous. AMD says the special edition celebrates ten years of the AM4 socket platform, which launched in 2016 and became one of the longest-supported desktop platforms in PC history.
AM4 supported multiple Ryzen generations and more than 100 processor models across several years, allowing many users to upgrade CPUs without replacing their motherboard. That long-term compatibility helped AMD build a strong reputation among PC builders.
Same Hardware, New Anniversary Edition
The anniversary version keeps the same specifications as the original Ryzen 7 5800X3D. AMD has not changed the architecture, core count, cache, or power requirements. According to multiple reports, the processor includes:
- 8 Zen 3 cores
- 16 threads
- Up to 4.5GHz boost clock
- 96MB of 3D V-Cache
- 105W TDP
- AM4 motherboard support
- DDR4 memory support
The main differences are the special anniversary packaging and the included Carbice Ice thermal pad bundled with the processor.
Why AMD Is Bringing It Back
One reason for the return appears to be cost. DDR5 memory and newer AM5 upgrades remain more expensive than older AM4 systems. Many gamers are looking for ways to improve gaming performance without replacing their entire PC. AMD previously hinted that it wanted to continue supporting budget-conscious builders who are staying on AM4.
The Ryzen 7 5800X3D remains a strong gaming processor, especially for users already owning compatible AM4 motherboards. Instead of buying a new motherboard, DDR5 memory, and processor, existing AM4 users can upgrade only the CPU.
Pricing and Release Date
AMD confirmed that the Ryzen 7 5800X3D 10th Anniversary Edition will launch on June 25, 2026, with a suggested retail price of $349. That is significantly lower than the processor’s original launch price of $449.
The company also confirmed compatibility with AMD 400-series and 500-series AM4 motherboards, making it a direct upgrade option for many existing Ryzen users.
AMD Also Introduced the Ryzen 7 7700X3D
Alongside the anniversary edition, AMD announced the Ryzen 7 7700X3D for AM5 systems. The new chip offers:
- 8 cores
- 16 threads
- 96MB cache
- 120W TDP
- Zen 4 architecture
- AM5 platform support
The processor launches on July 16, 2026, with a suggested price of $329. AMD positions it as a more affordable alternative to the Ryzen 7 7800X3D.
AM5 Support Continues Through 2029
AMD also used Computex 2026 to confirm that the AM5 platform will continue receiving processor support through at least 2029. This mirrors the long lifespan that made AM4 so successful among enthusiasts and gamers.
That means users buying AM5 today may still have several future CPU upgrade options without replacing their motherboard.
